JUST IN: Court Bars CBN, Others from Withholding Kano LG Allocations

A Kano State High Court has issued an order barring the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), and the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) from withholding the monthly allocations due to the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kano State.

The ruling follows a Motion Ex-Parte filed on November 1 by the Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ibrahim Muhammed, along with five concerned residents of Kano: Ibrahim Shehu, Ibrahim Abubakar, Usman Isa, Sarki Kurawa, and Usman Imam. The motion, presented by the applicants’ legal representatives, Bashir Yusuf-Muhammad and Usman Bala-Salisu, expressed concerns about the potential delay or withholding of critical allocations necessary for local governance in the state.

The court’s decision was made under the supervision of Justice Ibrahim Musa-Muhammad, who granted an Interim Order of Injunction, prohibiting the respondents—from the AGF to commercial banks involved—from interfering with the disbursement of the allocations. The ruling specifically stops any action that could delay, withhold, or defer the monthly financial transfers from the Federation Account to the 44 LGAs in Kano.

The court emphasized the importance of maintaining these allocations for the benefit of local governance and the citizens of Kano. The matter has been adjourned to November 21 for further hearings.

The court also authorized the applicants to serve the respondents through Red Star Express Plc to ensure proper and effective delivery of the court documents.
