JUST IN: Catholic Priest Fr Ubaechu Kidnapped in Imo State
Rev Fr John Ubaechu, the parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Izombe, in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, was kidnapped on Sunday evening by unidentified individuals. The incident took place along the Ejemekwuru Road while he was on his way to the Priests’ Annual Retreat.
The Owerri Catholic Archdiocesan Chancellor and Secretary, Rev Fr Patrick Mbarah, confirmed the abduction in a circular issued to the Catholic faithful on Monday. He urged the public to join in prayers for the priest’s swift and safe release.
According to the circular, Fr Ubaechu was kidnapped on Sunday, March 23, 2025. The church has since called on all Christians and people of goodwill to intercede for his freedom, entrusting his safety to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests.
