JUST IN: Bandits Attack Kaduna Hospital, Abduct Nurses, Patients
Armed bandits attacked the Primary Healthcare Centre in Kuyallo, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Monday, September 9. During the attack, two nurses and an unspecified number of patients were abducted.
The incident occurred around 9:00 am, with the assailants initially targeting the nearby Government Day Secondary School. However, upon discovering the school was vacant, the gunmen redirected their assault to the healthcare facility, according to Musa Alhassan, a leader of a local vigilante group. “They came looking for students, but when they discovered the school was empty, they moved to the health centre and began abducting people,” Alhassan explained.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits were heavily armed, causing widespread panic in the area. Among those abducted were two female nurses, but the exact number of patients taken remains unclear.
As of this report, neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor state government officials have issued any statements. Efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
This attack is the latest in a string of assaults targeting healthcare facilities and communities in Kaduna State, heightening concerns over the region’s growing insecurity. It also comes as a reminder that Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a medical doctor kidnapped months ago, remains in captivity.
In related developments, banditry continues to plague various parts of the state, with recent reports indicating that these criminal groups are increasingly using social media platforms to showcase their activities and flaunt ransom payments.
