JUST IN: ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike Nationwide

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced the commencement of a two-week nationwide warning strike, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.

ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, confirmed the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday. He stated that the industrial action would begin immediately after the ultimatum expired at midnight on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

According to Piwuna, the strike is intended to press the Federal Government to honour existing agreements and address the lingering challenges affecting public universities across the country.

“Consequently, all branches of ASUU are hereby directed to withdraw their services with effect from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025. The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive, as agreed at the last NEC meeting,” he declared.

The union had earlier, on September 28, 2025, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government, citing frustration over unfulfilled commitments and poor engagement from authorities. ASUU emphasized that the decision to strike became inevitable after repeated efforts to resolve the issues failed to produce results.

The warning strike is expected to disrupt academic activities in federal and state universities nationwide, as the union insists it will not back down until meaningful progress is made in addressing its demands.
