JUST IN: Again, Terrorists Storm Military Base in Borno in Early Morning Attack; Many Soldiers Feared Dead
Soldiers are feared dead and several others injured following an overnight attack by fighters from the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Ngamdu, Borno State. The assault occurred around 2 a.m. on Friday, targeting the military’s super camp located along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway in Kaga Local Government Area.
Sources said the insurgents stormed the base in large numbers and opened heavy fire on troops stationed at the facility. The attack reportedly resulted in multiple casualties among the soldiers, though the exact number of fatalities has yet to be confirmed.
Following the incident, the military temporarily blocked the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway, leaving hundreds of travellers and motorists stranded along the busy route. Witnesses noted that ambulances were seen early Friday morning transporting wounded soldiers to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu for treatment.
The Nigerian Army has not yet issued an official statement on the attack at the time of filing this report.
