JUST IN: Appeal Court Sacks LP Senator, Declares PDP’s Akobundu Winner of Abia Central Senatorial District
The Court of Appeal has officially declared Colonel Austin Akobundu (retd.), a former National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the rightful winner of the Abia Central Senatorial District election. This decision was announced by the PDP through its official X platform (formerly Twitter) on a Saturday.
In their official statement, the PDP stated, “The former National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, @officialPDP Colonel Austin Akobundu (retd), has just been declared by the Appeal Court as the rightful winner of Abia Central Senatorial District of Abia State.”
With this declaration, Senator Austin Akobundu now represents the Abia Central Senatorial District, becoming one of the two PDP senators from the South-East region at the National Assembly, alongside Senator Osita Ngwu of Enugu West.
Colonel Austin Akobundu expressed his gratitude and described this victory as a triumph for the people he represents. He emphasized that it’s a significant win for democracy as a whole. His Special Aide, Uche Nwosu, conveyed his message, saying, “The people of the senatorial district have emerged victorious, and this is a celebration of democracy.”
Akobundu thanked the judiciary for its judgment and dedicated this victory to God. He also reiterated his unwavering commitment to serving the people of the Abia Central Senatorial District, signaling a promising chapter for the region.
