JUST IN: Appeal Court Nullifies Judgment Allowing 381 Ad-Hoc Delegates in Edo PDP Primary, Affirms Ighodalo’s Candidacy
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified a previous judgment by a Federal High Court that had mandated the participation of 381 ad-hoc delegates in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election held on February 22 in Edo State.
This primary election had led to the emergence of Asue Ighodalo as the PDP candidate for the upcoming September 21, 2024, governorship election in the state.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel, overturned the July 4, 2024 judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo. The Court of Appeal ruled that the trial court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case brought by the aggrieved delegates, as they did not have the legal standing to initiate the suit.
The court further emphasized that it has no authority to interfere in the internal processes of the PDP concerning the selection of its candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.
