JUST IN: Anti-Tinubu Coalition Applies to INEC for Registration of New Party, All Democratic Alliance (ADA)
By Arthur Maduka
The Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG), a political coalition known for its opposition to President Bola Tinubu, has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA). The application, dated June 19, 2025, was received by INEC on June 20.
A copy of the letter, signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets, the Protem National Chairman of the proposed party, confirmed the group’s intent to register ADA with the slogan “Justice for All.” The letter emphasized that the application follows a resolution by the coalition to back the creation of a new party, and it includes the party’s logo, manifesto, constitution, flag, and minutes of meetings, in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.
The submission outlines the party’s ideology and structure, citing compliance with democratic principles and national legal frameworks. According to the letter, the ADA logo features symbols including maize, intended to represent the party’s identity and vision.
The move to register a new party comes after internal discussions within the coalition about possibly joining an existing political platform. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) had both made overtures to the group, but internal crises and litigations in those parties raised concerns. To address this, the coalition formed a committee led by former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi to explore the possibility of launching a fresh platform. The committee submitted its report last week, recommending the creation of a new party where all members would have equal standing.
Prominent figures in the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, and Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, among others.
