Just Days Before 29th Anniversary, Akon’s Wife Files for Divorce
Tomeka Thiam, wife of Senegalese-American music star Akon, has filed for divorce just days before the couple’s 29th wedding anniversary.
Court documents filed on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia, reveal that Tomeka is seeking to dissolve the marriage on grounds of irreconcilable differences. She has also requested joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, with visitation rights for Akon.
In addition, Tomeka is asking the court for spousal support while urging that the singer be denied any support from her.
The couple, who married in September 1996, have been together for nearly three decades. This move marks a significant turning point in Akon’s personal life, even as he continues to maintain a high-profile career in music and business.
