“Judge Thwarted Their Plans and Said My Husband Should Take Me Home” – Natasha Akpoti Reacts After N50 Million Bail

Suspended Senator for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has spoken out after being granted bail by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the ruling as a rejection of attempts to keep her in custody.

The federal government is prosecuting Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations that she falsely claimed Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello were behind a plot to assassinate her.

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, June 19, Justice Chizoba Orji dismissed the prosecution’s request to remand her in prison, stating there was no compelling reason to deny her bail. The court granted her bail in the sum of N50 million and affirmed that she had shown readiness to face trial.

Reacting shortly after the ruling, Akpoti-Uduaghan shared a photo with her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, and expressed her joy.

She wrote:

“Smile, king of my heart, smile. The judge refused granting their wish and said you should take me home. How blessed I am. Thank you good people of Nigeria, Kogi Central and Kogi State.”

She signed the message, “Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan.”

The court is expected to proceed with hearings on the substantive charges in the weeks ahead.
