Joe Igbokwe Reacts to the Impeachment of Lagos Speaker Obasa
Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed support for the impeachment of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. The Speaker was removed from office on Monday by members of the assembly, citing alleged statutory and financial misconduct.
Following the impeachment, Mojisola Meranda Ojora was elected as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Reacting to the development, Igbokwe took to his Facebook page to endorse the move, accusing the former Speaker of failing to cooperate with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He described Obasa’s actions as counterproductive and unyielding, despite efforts by key political figures to mediate.
“The deed is done in LAHA!!! Hon Mudashiru Obasa impeached as Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly for gross misconduct and abuse of office. Hon Mojisola Melanda Ojora is the new Speaker,” Igbokwe wrote.
In a comment on his own post, Igbokwe further stated, “He was on Governor Sanwo-Olu’s neck for years. Every attempt to persuade him to work with the Governor fell on deaf ears. Many interventions by GAC members did not help matters.”
