ISWAP Attacks Christian Village in Adamawa, Issues Conversion Threat

The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has attacked a Christian village in Adamawa State, northeastern Nigeria, setting homes ablaze and issuing threats against Christian communities in the region.

A security analyst, Brant Philip, disclosed the incident on Thursday after ISWAP released a video showing the village on fire. According to Philip, the footage was accompanied by a statement from the group declaring that Christians in Nigeria are “legitimate targets.”

In the statement, ISWAP warned that Christians could “spare their blood” only by converting to Islam or by paying a jizyah tax imposed by the group. The attack is widely viewed as retaliation for recent joint military operations against terrorist groups. Earlier this week, Nigerian and United States forces carried out airstrikes on a terrorist enclave in Sokoto State.

Five days ago, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. military had launched airstrikes targeting terrorists in Sokoto, as part of efforts to degrade extremist networks operating in Nigeria.

ISWAP, a faction linked to the Islamic State, has intensified attacks on civilian communities in recent months, further deepening insecurity in parts of northeastern Nigeria.
