ISIS Claims Responsibility for Moscow Concert Shooting; Death Toll Rises to 60
The Islamic State (ISIS) has asserted accountability for the shooting rampage that unfolded at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia’s bustling capital.
Initially reported with 40 fatalities, the toll of lives lost has tragically surged to at least 60, including innocent children, as confirmed by Russian state news agency RIA.
With a staggering count of 145 individuals sustaining injuries, fears loom that the casualty count may escalate further.
ISIS relayed their involvement through a brief statement disseminated via the ISIS-linked news outlet Amaq on the messaging platform Telegram. However, concrete evidence to substantiate their claim remains elusive.
According to RIA’s account, the assailants, garbed in camouflage attire and ominously unmasked, purportedly made their escape in a white car adorned with a Renault emblem and equipped with a tinted rear window.
Prior to their abrupt departure, the perpetrators unleashed a hail of bullets from automatic firearms upon the concertgoers and even hurled a grenade, igniting chaos and panic while engulfing the hall in flames.
The ensuing devastation saw a portion of the concert hall’s roof succumb to the inferno, compounding the tragedy.
Russian authorities, led by the Investigative Committee of Russia and bolstered by operational units of the ministry of internal affairs, have promptly initiated inquiries into the incident, treating it as a potential act of terrorism.
A meticulous retrieval of material evidence, including weaponry and ammunition, has commenced at the crime scene, with comprehensive examinations encompassing genetic, ballistic, and fingerprint analyses already underway, as confirmed by the committee.
Moreover, efforts to procure and scrutinize footage from surveillance cameras are underway, while autopsies are slated to be conducted to glean further insights into the harrowing ordeal.
