Iran’s Supreme Leader Confirmed Dead, Israel Says
Israel says Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has been killed in coordinated US and Israeli strikes carried out early Saturday.
Two Israeli sources familiar with the matter said officials have obtained photographic evidence of Khamenei’s body and are preparing a formal announcement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there are “many signs” the Iranian leader is “no longer with us,” but did not publicly present proof.
Iran’s government denied the claim. A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said earlier that the Supreme Leader and the president were “safe and sound.” Khamenei has not appeared in public since the strikes began.
The joint operation targeted hundreds of sites across Iran, according to the Israeli military. US Central Command said the campaign struck Revolutionary Guard facilities, air defenses, missile launch sites and military airfields.
Iranian state media reported more than 200 people killed in the strikes, citing the Iranian Red Crescent. The figures have not been independently verified.
President Donald Trump said the operation followed stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and indicated further action remains under consideration.
Iran responded within hours, launching missiles and drones at US bases, Israel and other targets across the Middle East. The US military reported no combat-related American casualties and minimal damage to installations.
The situation remains fluid as both sides continue military operations.
