Iran Promises Heavy Retaliation After US-Israel Strikes
Iran has promised a forceful response after coordinated attacks by the United States and Israel struck multiple Iranian cities on Saturday. Explosions were reported in Kermanshah, Lorestan, Tabriz, Isfahan, and Karaj.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, described the operation as a “pre-emptive strike” aimed at neutralizing threats to Israeli security. The attacks come in the wake of a 12-day air campaign between the two countries in June and repeated warnings from Washington and Tel Aviv regarding Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
An Iranian official speaking to Reuters indicated that Tehran is preparing counterattacks described as “crushing.” Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly moved to a secure location outside Tehran during the strikes.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of Iran’s parliamentary National Security Commission, warned that the situation is now beyond the control of Israel and the United States, signaling a potential escalation.
President Donald Trump defended the operation as necessary to protect American interests. In a post on Truth Social, he stated that US forces had launched “major combat operations” to eliminate threats from what he described as the Iranian regime’s “menacing activities” that endanger the United States, its troops, and allies worldwide.
The situation remains fluid, with international observers closely monitoring Tehran’s next moves.
