IPOB Seeks International Support for Nnamdi Kanu’s Medical and Legal Needs

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on its global membership to support the medical care and legal defence of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, citing rising costs linked to his ongoing detention.

In a memorandum dated February 13, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful directed coordinators, unit leaders, and members worldwide to mobilise resources for Kanu’s welfare.

The memo highlighted organisations that have assisted Kanu over the years, including the American Veterans of Igbo Descent, Ambassadors for Self-Determination, and the Rising Sun Foundation, urging members to provide continued support.

Kanu’s detention outside Abuja has, according to the memo, increased logistical costs for both legal teams and medical personnel visiting him, placing additional strain on existing support structures. The statement also suggested that broader fundraising initiatives could be launched later in the year.

While no specific medical details were shared, the memo expressed concern about Kanu’s health and stressed the importance of maintaining consistent medical care alongside legal advocacy.

The statement further called on IPOB members to remain united, uphold discipline in communications, verify information through official channels, and counter misinformation responsibly. Members were encouraged to circulate verified updates, participate voluntarily in support efforts, and reinforce cohesion across the organisation.

Solidarity among members was emphasised as essential while legal proceedings continue.
