Channels TV Cameraman Dies After Bauchi Road Crash
Kani Ben, a cameraman with Channels Television, has died from injuries sustained in a road accident in Bauchi State.
He passed away around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday at the Modular Theatre Complex of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for spinal cord injuries.
Ben was among 13 journalists involved in a crash on Friday, 6 February 2026, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area. The media team was returning from an event organised by the North East Development Commission.
Earlier that day, a delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, had commissioned and handed over a Government Secondary School in Yelwan Duguri.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle conveying the journalists attempted to overtake a convoy before losing control and veering off the road. The vehicle reportedly somersaulted several times, ejecting occupants.
The journalists sustained varying injuries, including head trauma, fractures and bruises. Ben, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered severe spinal injuries. He underwent surgery a day after the accident but died while receiving care.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
