IPMAN Threatens Operations Suspension as Anambra State Government Delays N900 Million Payment

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, urging the prompt settlement of a N900 million debt owed to contractors who supplied diesel for streetlight generators.

Chinedu Anyaso, the IPMAN chairman overseeing Anambra, Ebony, and Enugu States, conveyed the association’s concerns in Awka on Friday. Anyaso revealed that the contractor had abided by the government’s directive to return all generators, in an effort to recover the outstanding debts upon termination of the contracts.

Expressing the gravity of the situation, Anyaso cautioned that operations of marketers in the state could grind to a halt without prior notice if the state government fails to meet its financial obligations.

Highlighting the financial distress faced by marketers due to accumulated debts, Anyaso disclosed that IPMAN had formally notified the Anambra government of their compliance with the specified conditions for payment.

The IPMAN chairman underscored the urgency of the matter, revealing that a letter titled “Request For Debt Payment of N900,664,805.00 owed our members for Diesel supplied and Services Rendered in Respect Of Street Lights” had been dispatched to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.

The letter acknowledged the government’s receipt of generators and fervently requested the expeditious settlement of the outstanding debt. IPMAN’s general assembly now awaits a prompt response from the Anambra government to avert potential disruptions to operations and alleviate the financial strain on its members.
