Inmate Stabs Prison Officer, Escapes Court Wearing Officer’s Uniform
An inmate escaped from Zimbabwe’s Rotten Row Magistrates Court after allegedly stabbing a prison officer and fleeing the building while disguised in the officer’s uniform.
According to *DailyNews*, the inmate overpowered the officer during court proceedings, forcibly removed his uniform, handcuffed him, and then used the uniform to exit the premises without immediate detection.
The escape prompted an immediate lockdown at the courthouse, bringing proceedings to a halt as security personnel attempted to contain the situation. Court staff and members of the public were left visibly shaken as officers secured the building.
Authorities launched a manhunt shortly after the incident, focusing on surrounding areas and key exit routes from the city. At the time of reporting, the suspect had not been apprehended.
Investigations are ongoing, with officials urging anyone who may have information about the escape or the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the police.
The incident has raised serious questions about security at the courthouse. Public reaction has focused on how the inmate obtained a weapon inside a secured facility and how a lone officer was overpowered without immediate backup. Concerns have also been raised about possible lapses in protocol and overall safety measures for court personnel.
