INEC Chairman Alleges Sabotage in Kogi Gubernatorial Poll, Cites Unseen Forces for Disruptions
In a recent statement following the Kogi gubernatorial election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) attributed the delayed arrival of officials and election materials in various polling units to what they termed “deliberate sabotage by unseen forces.” Mr. Haliru Sule, the state INEC Voter Education and Publicity Officer, expressed this concern in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on the day of the election.
Despite the meticulous preparations made by INEC for this exceptional governorship election, unexpected challenges surfaced, causing disruptions in the logistical aspect of the electoral process. Sule highlighted the unanticipated shortage of transportation, impeding the timely deployment of ad hoc staff and materials to their designated polling units.
Acknowledging the hurdles faced, Sule remarked on INEC’s efforts to surmount these challenges, ensuring the continuity and successful conduct of the election. Emphasizing the commitment to a fair, credible, and smooth electoral process, he expressed confidence that the election would ultimately be deemed free and fair.
Furthermore, Sule commended the security operatives for their contributions in providing essential security cover, ensuring a peaceful environment for both electoral personnel and voters throughout the election.
Amidst the disruptions, INEC remains resolute in their assurance of a comprehensive and successful election outcome, despite the challenges encountered during the gubernatorial polls in Kogi.
