Imo Police Raid Suspected IPOB Camp, Seize Weapons and Ammunition
Imo State Police Command has successfully dislodged a suspected IPOB camp in Njaba Local Government Area, recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the operation was conducted in collaboration with other security agencies at Ubaa, Umuaka, targeting hideouts of the criminal gang. The operation was based on credible intelligence and confessional statements from arrested suspects, Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro.
Okoye stated that the suspects opened fire upon sighting security operatives but were overpowered and forced to flee into nearby bushes, sustaining gunshot injuries. A thorough search of the camp led to the recovery of one POS machine, an AK-47 rifle with three magazines, 40 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 60 rounds of live General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, two pump-action guns, and 582 live cartridges.
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who managed to escape. Police Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station. He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to public safety and encouraged the use of the emergency line 0803 477 3600 for timely reporting.
