Imo Police Ban Use of Unmarked Vehicles, Mini-Buses by Officers
The Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, has banned all tactical teams under his command from using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), during patrol operations across the state. This directive was announced in a press statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, who said the move comes in response to numerous public complaints about harassment, intimidation, and extortion by officers operating in unauthorized vehicles.
According to the statement, CP Danjuma condemned the use of such vehicles as grossly unprofessional and warned that any team found flouting the directive will face immediate sanctions. He further noted that commanders of offending teams will be held vicariously liable for violations.
The police command emphasized its continued commitment to professionalism, accountability, and ethical policing, aligning with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police. All units have been instructed to comply strictly with the new directive, while members of the public are encouraged to report any breaches.
