Deadly Showdown: Six Armed Robbers Killed in Fierce Gun Battle with Police
Six suspected armed robbers were killed following a gun battle with operatives of the Delta State Police Command during a sting operation along the Patani-Ughelli expressway near the Unenurhie axis in Ughelli North Local Government Area. The incident took place on July 9, 2025, at approximately 8:35 a.m.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation targeted a notorious gang whose members include Solomon Danisco, also known as Picolo, Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, and Whisky Rufus, alias Asawana, a native of the Ewu community. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
During the confrontation, all eight suspects sustained gunshot injuries. Six were later confirmed dead at the hospital, while two remain under medical care. Police recovered four locally-made firearms and 19 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
The Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety and cracking down on violent criminal activities across the state.
