Imo Police Arrest Three Suspected ESN Members, Seize Weapons and N10.3 Million in Cash
The Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the Okigwe Local Government Area. According to a statement released on Friday by Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended by the command’s tactical unit in collaboration with local vigilante groups.
The arrested individuals were identified as Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent, 21; Ugwu Ikenna, 31; and Ofor Kasarachis, 37. Their arrest followed a tip-off, which led to their apprehension on Thursday. Okoye reported that the suspects engaged the operatives in a gunfight upon being sighted, but were eventually arrested, while two other suspects managed to escape.
During the operation, law enforcement recovered a significant amount of weaponry, including an AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, and 18 live cartridges. Additionally, mobile phones, laptops, and a large sum of N10.3 million in cash were seized. Investigations revealed that the money had been collected by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to fund terrorism-related activities.
With Easter approaching, the Imo State Police Command has assured the public of heightened security measures. In coordination with other security agencies, patrols, surveillance, and checkpoints have been intensified to ensure a peaceful celebration. The police have urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the nearest station or via the designated emergency line at 08034773600.
