The Nigeria Police Force has narrated how security officers in Imo State were mercilessly ambushed and killed while responding to a distress call that later turned out to be a cruel ruse. This tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, September 19, in the quiet town of Oriagu, within the Ehime Mbano Local Council area.
The Nigeria Police Force, reeling from the loss of its brave personnel, has officially confirmed that the distress call was, in fact, a cunning trap meticulously orchestrated to lure the security agents into a deadly ambush.
The victims of this senseless act of violence included police officers, military personnel, personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). These dedicated individuals were committed to their duty, responding swiftly to what they believed was a genuine call for help from the community. Tragically, their noble intentions were exploited in a heart-wrenching act of violence.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, expressed the severity of the situation, stating, “The security agents affected by this senseless act of violence comprised Police Officers, the Military, personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). They were diligently responding to a distress call from the area, which turned out to be fake, and targeted at luring them into the ambush.”
The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged unwavering commitment to bringing those responsible to justice. He has assured the public that the police force will work closely with relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this heinous act. The IGP declared, “We are relentlessly pursuing the cause of justice.”
In response to the recent attack, the IGP has also ordered a clampdown on non-state actors who may have been involved in this gruesome incident. He extended his heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the grieving families of the fallen heroes, promising that the sacrifices made by their loved ones would not be in vain.
