‘I’m an Armed Robber, not Kidnapper’ Chinaza Phillip Cries Out
Chinaza Philip, a man previously identified as an Abuja kidnap kingpin, has asserted that he is, in fact, an armed robber and not involved in kidnapping activities.
Philip was apprehended by the Kawo divisional police in Kaduna on January 18 while transporting a person allegedly abducted in Abuja to Kano. The victim, Segun Akinyemi, an Abuja resident abducted by Philip’s gang at the Area 3 axis of the city, was successfully rescued by the police.
After his arrest, Philip was transferred to the Abuja police command on January 19, where he spoke to reporters during a parade of suspected criminals. He stated that his criminal specialty lies in stealing cars, which are then sold in Kano state.
“I want to categorically state that I am not a kidnapper. We only patrol at night and collect cars, taking them to Kano for sale,” Philip clarified. He went on to explain that their original intent that night was to rob the man and take his car. However, he expressed surprise when their leader, known as Yellow, instructed the victim to enter the back of the car after seizing it.
Philip further elaborated, “I did not know why he did that, and I could not argue with him, so we were driving to Kano before the police caught up with us in Kaduna where I was arrested.” The suspect’s claims add a layer of complexity to an already intricate case, leaving authorities to investigate further into his alleged criminal activities.
