“I’ll Tackle Wike Next Time We Meet” – Shehu Sani

Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has vowed to confront the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over recent remarks made by the minister.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Sani responded to Wike’s challenge for him to list his contributions to democracy during his tenure in the Senate. Sani criticized Wike’s tactic of speaking last at events to avoid rebuttals.

“Wike is my good friend, but I would prefer to reply to him at an event rather than on TV,” Sani remarked. “I’ve attended two events where he strategically placed himself at the end and ensured nobody could reply. Next time, I’ll make sure he gets a response.”

Sani emphasized the significant role he played in Nigeria’s struggle against military dictatorship, noting that without such efforts, Wike might not have achieved his political positions. “If not for the struggles to end military dictatorship, Wike wouldn’t have become a Local Government chairman, governor, or minister. He is a beneficiary of our struggles,” he said.

Recounting his past as a political prisoner in Port Harcourt, Sani questioned Wike’s whereabouts during those times of hardship. He asserted his readiness to confront Wike at future events, promising, “Next time we go for an event, I’ll ensure he gets a reply.”

Sani downplayed the personal nature of Wike’s comments, suggesting they were more about the Senate’s overall impact on democracy rather than targeting him individually.
