Ikwerre Chairman Accuses Gov Fubara of Plotting Abuja Kidnappings to Push Wike Out

Samuel Nwanosike, the chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, has accused Governor Sim Fubara of orchestrating the ongoing wave of kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Nwanosike claims that Fubara’s alleged involvement is aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister, with the ultimate goal of forcing him out of office.

Speaking passionately in a video shared on his social media handle, Nwanosike asserted that Fubara is actively supporting the kidnappings in Abuja, alleging that the governor is paying individuals to falsely link Wike to the criminal activities. Addressing a gathering of supporters in Omerelu community, Nwanosike declared, “Fubara is part of those supporting the kidnappings in Abuja because he wants Nyesom Wike to leave office. Nyesom Wike will not leave office. Foul!”

Nwanosike further criticized Fubara’s tenure, claiming that the governor has failed to achieve any notable accomplishments since assuming office on May 29. Accusing Fubara of paying the chairman of Rivers Youth Council, Ihunwo, to insult Minister Nyesom Wike, Nwanosike pledged to continue denouncing the governor.

Describing Governor Fubara as a “foolish governor,” the local government chairman alleged that President Bola Tinubu would not succumb to Fubara’s alleged attempts to remove Wike from office. Nwanosike asserted that Tinubu is satisfied with Wike’s performance in delivering democracy, despite the heightened insecurity in the nation’s capital.

When approached for comments, Joe Johnson, Rivers commissioner for information, stated that he was not aware of the allegations and would respond once he can confirm the statement.

The strained relationship between Wike and Fubara has been a subject of public attention, with recent intervention by the president resulting in a resolution that seemingly favors Minister Nyesom Wike. Last week, Wike attributed the surge in kidnappings in Abuja to the military incursion in Kaduna and Niger states, which led to the expulsion of many bandits from the states.
