IGP Egbetokun Appoints First Female Force Secretary, AIG Yetunde Longe
In a historic move aimed at promoting gender inclusivity within the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector-General of Police Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Yetunde O. Longe, as the first female Force Secretary. This significant appointment was announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in Abuja.
The statement highlighted AIG Longe’s extensive experience and dedication since her appointment as a Cadet ASP on March 3, 1990. AIG Longe, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Toxicology, has shown exceptional proficiency in crime management and investigation. Her professional development includes advanced courses like the Advanced Detective Course, Intermediate Command Course at the Police Staff College in Jos, and the Protection of Civilians course in Italy.
AIG Longe’s career spans several key positions within the NPF. She has served as an Administrative Officer, Crime Officer, Commandant in Lagos, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Corporate Investment at the NPF Cooperative, Area Commander in Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in both Bauchi and Lagos States, and DCP Admin at Zone 2, Lagos. Before her latest appointment, she was the Commissioner of Police for the Port Authority Police, Eastern Command, Port Harcourt, and later the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the Department of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
IGP Egbetokun reiterated his unwavering commitment to gender sensitivity, stating that his administration is dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering female officers to attain leadership positions. He emphasized that including women in strategic roles is essential for the comprehensive development and effectiveness of the Police Force, ensuring that merit and capability remain the primary criteria for advancement, regardless of gender.
