Igbos in Lagos Declare Support for Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo community in Lagos has pledged its full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in his chances of victory.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Sunday Udeh, said the group was committed to ensuring peace and unity between the Igbo and Yoruba communities. He made the remarks during a reconciliation meeting convened by Abdul-Azeez Adediran (popularly known as Jandor), lead visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, following recent demolitions in parts of the state.
Mr Udeh described President Tinubu as “a man who knows the game” and affirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would secure another win in 2027. He urged the Lagos State government to continue engaging and supporting the Ndigbo and other ethnic communities to promote inclusion and a sense of belonging.
“2027 is close. We know our party will take it. I am a member and will work for the party,” Mr Udeh said, calling on Igbos and Yorubas to shun animosity and maintain peaceful coexistence.
Charles Obih, National President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria (TMLAN), also pledged support for Tinubu’s re-election, describing him as a capable leader tackling longstanding national challenges. “We will move around to make sure the re-election of President Tinubu is seamless by the grace of God,” Mr Obih said.
In a similar vein, Okey Anorue, Eze Ndigbo of Igbogbo/Bayeku and Babaloja of Tejuosho Market, urged both ethnic groups to strengthen their bond ahead of the elections. He cautioned Igbos against being used by politicians to create conflict, emphasizing mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
“We need a peaceful environment. They are our hosts, and we must respect their culture. When in Rome, behave like the Romans,” he said.
Ndigbo women leaders in Lagos also expressed strong support for President Tinubu. Amaka Chibuzor, Ndigbo women leader in Coker Aguda, said their goal was to ensure Tinubu’s re-election, describing the APC as “the winning team.” Ebere Odikonaba, former woman leader of Ndigbo in APC, Oshodi-Isolo, echoed the sentiment, saying the Igbos had no other party but the APC.
Uju Ofohre, APC women leader from Ejigbo LCDA, called on Ndigbo women to reciprocate the goodwill of their Yoruba hosts through political support. “The Yorubas have shown us love. We must return that love by supporting the APC and coming out en masse in 2027,” she said, urging them to also back the party’s governorship candidate in the state.
