Anambra 2025: Obidient Movement Snubs LP Candidate, Endorses Gov. Soludo for Second Term

Supporters of former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, have declared their support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid, despite political differences between the two leaders.

The endorsement was announced by the leader of the Obidient Movement in Anambra, Hon. Ikenna Azomchine, also known as “Obidient General,” during a press conference in Awka. Azomchine said the group’s decision followed a careful assessment of Soludo’s performance and alignment with the principles of good governance that the movement upholds.

“We are disciples of good governance, and we have made the decision to support Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for a second term,” Azomchine stated. “Our decision is based on the values we hold as Obidients—integrity, performance, and credibility. We have not been influenced or bribed by anyone. In fact, we have not even met Soludo personally. What we are doing is a reflection of our conviction.”

He added that members of the Obidient Movement in Anambra recognize that there are more supporters of Peter Obi within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) than in the Labour Party in the state. According to him, many APGA members voted for Obi during the 2023 presidential election, and it was only fair to support Soludo’s second-term bid in return.

“We discovered that APGA Obidients outnumber LP Obidients in Anambra. During the presidential election, many of them supported Peter Obi. Now, it is time for us to support them by backing Soludo for a second term,” Azomchine explained.

He clarified that the endorsement does not signify defection to APGA, but a strategic alliance to support Soludo’s re-election based on his performance in office.

Following the press briefing, Azomchine led members of the Obidient Movement to join APGA supporters at a rally in Amawbia, Awka South, where they publicly declared their support for the governor. He also donated two vehicles to aid Soludo’s campaign.
