Igbo Presidency at the Core of My Buhari Meeting, Sowunmi Rebukes Obidients

Former spokesperson for the People Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s Campaign Organisation, Segun Sowunmi, recently made a visit to Daura, Katsina State, to engage in a crucial conversation with former President Muhammadu Buhari. Sowunmi, who shared the purpose of his visit, revealed that he sought insights into Buhari’s perspective on the potential of having a Nigerian president from the South-East.

During his visit, Sowunmi emphasized that the primary objective was to understand the former president’s experiences from his eight years of service to Nigeria. The former Atiku spokesperson, however, faced criticism on social media after sharing photos from the visit.

Expressing disappointment over the reaction he received from the Obidients, Sowunmi clarified that his intention was to broaden discussions surrounding the prospect of a South-East presidency. He explained, “I went to him and was agonizing, ‘Mr., we collaborated with ourselves to give Yoruba the Presidency when June 12 happened. Are we going to watch the South Easterners struggle and be angry?'”

Sowunmi highlighted concerns about regional stability and the need for collaboration, citing the loss of the middle belt and ongoing challenges in the northeast. He conveyed his attempts to engage in a constructive dialogue with the former President, seeking solutions for the current political landscape.

Despite his efforts to foster a broader discussion, Sowunmi noted resistance from the Obidients, particularly those associated with Peter Obi. He expressed confusion over the negative reactions, stating, “If everybody wants to be tribalistic, then I will be tribal too.”

Sowunmi’s visit to Daura aligns with a recent trend, as another spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, also visited President Bola Tinubu.
