Igbo Leaders Will Beg Tinubu to Release Nnamdi Kanu, Says Arthur Eze
Nigerian business mogul and philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze, has assured that Igbo leaders will appeal to President Bola Tinubu to forgive and release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking to journalists in Enugu, Eze, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, distanced Tinubu from Kanu’s continued detention, emphasizing that it was the decision of former President Muhammadu Buhari. He described Buhari as a “hardliner” and expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to show mercy.
“Nnamdi Kanu was detained by Buhari, not Tinubu. Buhari is a hardliner. But we shall beg Tinubu to forgive him. He has the spirit of forgiveness. He has no enemy,” Eze stated.
Addressing young agitators advocating for conflict, Eze urged restraint, drawing from his personal experience during the Nigerian Civil War. He recounted the hardships his family endured, including the loss of seven brothers on the battlefield and his own time as a refugee. He warned against the dangers of war, stressing that many of those calling for conflict do not understand its consequences.
Eze reiterated that Kanu’s detention was not Tinubu’s doing and urged patience and cooperation with the government while efforts are made to secure Kanu’s release.
