“If Tinubu Fails to Wake Up to His Responsibility, He’ll Receive the Curses I Get Every Day,” Declares Actor Olaiya Igwe

Nollywood actor Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, has issued a public apology to Nigerians after facing severe criticism for a controversial beachside ritual where he stripped naked to invoke spirits in support of President Bola Tinubu’s election during the 2023 general elections.

In a video statement, Olaiya Igwe expressed remorse, stating, “I went to the beach naked to pray for Tinubu based on revelation. I did that as payback for Tinubu, my benefactor. Nigerians, please don’t be angry. I accept that you see me as one of those who brought this hardship on the country.”

Acknowledging the economic challenges facing the nation, the actor called on President Tinubu to address the cries of Nigerians. Olaiya Igwe warned that the curses he receives daily would extend to the president if necessary actions were not taken.

“If you (Tinubu) fail to wake up to your responsibility, the curses I get daily, you will also get. Nigerians are crying. I want to talk to our father, Tinubu. Daddy, Nigerians are not happy; they are crying. You need to appoint a monitoring team to ensure they deliver on your plans and promises to citizens,” he urged.

Olaiya Igwe emphasized the need for President Tinubu to establish a monitoring team to ensure the delivery of promises made to citizens, stating, “Nigerians are crying. Even Nigerians in the diaspora are not happy with the present situation in Nigeria.”

The actor, who described Tinubu’s efforts to stabilize the economy, becomes the second celebrity, after fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde (Kwam 1), to openly express concern about economic hardships in the country following their support for President Tinubu.

Last week, Kwam 1, who was a prominent supporter of Tinubu during the campaign, also raised his voice against the economic challenges, questioning the increase in kidnapping and the depreciation of the naira against the dollar.

Protests erupted in Minna, Niger State capital, on Monday, with demonstrators shutting down major roads in response to the rising cost of living under President Tinubu’s administration. Meanwhile, Tinubu has reassured the nation, stating, “The financial re-engineering of our country is ongoing. We are determined to deliver Nigeria safely through the tunnel of hope, stability, and economic prosperity.”
