If I Want to Join APC, I Will – Who in PDP Should I Fear? Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is unafraid of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he chooses to do so. Wike made the remark while addressing his decision to withhold support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 presidential election.

Wike explained that his stance was rooted in concerns over a lack of equity and fairness within the PDP, which he said undermined the principles of justice.

“Now at my level, I came out in this country, and I said I was not going to support your [Atiku’s] presidency because you’re not fair. There’s no justice, no equity as far as PDP was concerned,” Wike stated.

He clarified that his decision was transparent and unequivocal, adding, “I didn’t hide it. I’m not like others who say one thing in the day and another at night. Nigerians know me – I will always follow through with what I say.”

Wike also dismissed rumors of pre-election discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu about switching to the APC. “I never spoke with the President any day about joining APC. I never told anybody that,” he emphasized.

Reinforcing his independence, Wike asserted that no one in the PDP or elsewhere could intimidate him into political decisions. “Nobody should think I’m afraid. If I want to join APC, I will. Who is that person in PDP that I should fear?”
