Ibadan Horror: 69-Year-Old Oyo Perm Sec Found Strangled, Robbed in Residence
In a shocking incident that unfolded between Thursday and Friday last week, Ms Olaitan Gbenle, a 69-year-old retired Permanent Secretary with the Oyo State Government, was gruesomely murdered at her residence along All Saints College Road, Idi Ishin, off NIHORT area of Ibadan. The assailants reportedly strangled her after tying her hands and legs.
The perpetrators, after committing the heinous act, made off with two of her vehicles, phones, and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards. The lifeless body of Ms Gbenle was discovered on Friday morning, still dressed in the attire she wore on Thursday.
Sources revealed that the killers targeted her a day after she reported to the police about threats to her life by hoodlums who frequently gathered near her residence to smoke marijuana. Despite her efforts to seek protection, tragedy befell her.
It was uncovered that Ms Gbenle, who was scheduled to host a meeting of retired permanent secretaries and heads of service on Thursday, November 16, became a victim of a senseless crime before the gathering could take place.
The deceased, survived by her daughter, a medical doctor, had recently lost her maid who had been living with her. Detectives from the Oyo State Police Command have initiated investigations into this disturbing murder case.
A condolence message shared on the WhatsApp platform of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries of Oyo and Osun States (AREHSPSOOS) expressed deep sorrow over Ms Gbenle’s untimely demise. The Association’s 16th November 2023 Quarterly meeting has been canceled due to this tragic event, with funeral details to be communicated by the family. The Oyo State Police Command remains committed to uncovering the truth behind this appalling crime.
