“I will form an alliance with the North. Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money campaigning for him.” – Asari Dokubo
Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has announced plans to forge an alliance with northern leaders as he prepares for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. This declaration follows his public accusations against President Bola Tinubu, whom he claims betrayed him after supporting his rise to power in 2023.
In a viral video addressing his followers, Dokubo expressed his disappointment in Tinubu, stating that he had invested significant personal resources into campaigning for the President. “I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him,” he lamented, insisting that the current Tinubu is not the same individual he once supported. He emphasized, “We will now start that same alliance” with the North, suggesting that previous generations were right to seek partnerships in the region.
Dokubo’s rhetoric took a sharp turn as he criticized the Yoruba people, whom he accused of betrayal, declaring, “We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us.” He urged his followers to hold him accountable should Tinubu fail to deliver on his promises, reflecting his deep disillusionment with the current administration.
This announcement comes in the context of increasing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, including reports of an alliance among opposition parties. Notably, political scientist Pat Utomi recently revealed discussions with prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP about the potential formation of a new political entity aimed at ousting Tinubu.
