“I Will Bring Down the Dollar Again”: Odumeje Vows to Reverse Naira Depreciation

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the charismatic Onitsha-based pastor commonly known as Odumeje, claims that his recent absence from the country is the reason for the naira’s depreciation against the dollar. The cleric returned from London after hosting a comedy show, where he was widely known for his exuberant displays and frequent declarations of spiritual prowess.

Speaking at the airport upon his return, Odumeje declared that he intends to stop the naira’s downward trend. Known for boasting about his supernatural abilities, he often attributes the fluctuations of the currency to his spiritual interventions.

“When I left the country, the dollar began to rise; now that I am back, I will continue where I stopped,” Odumeje stated. He boldly claims to have been the catalyst behind the naira’s appreciation earlier this month, when it gained 12 percent against the dollar in early April, following a 14 percent surge in March.

However, since his departure, the naira has faced significant depreciation. As of Friday, the parallel market rate dropped to N1,320 to the dollar, and the official rate decreased by 2.24 percent, from N1,309.88 on April 25 to N1,339.23. This has led to increased public concern and market volatility.

Despite the recent depreciation, Odumeje expressed confidence in his ability to reverse the trend. “This is Indaboski Bahose. The war and the battle. A man full of power and activities. The only man who tells you ‘I will bring down the dollar’ and gets it done,” he proclaimed.

With his return, the nation is waiting to see whether Odumeje’s presence will indeed impact the forex market, as he boldly promises.
