2026 Is a Year of ‘Kabush Kabash,’ Odumeje Declares

Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, the Onitsha-based pastor popularly known as Odumeje, has declared 2026 a year of “kabush kabash,” describing it as a period marked by intense spiritual warfare.

The cleric made the declaration during his crossover service on Tuesday night, addressing members of his congregation as they welcomed the new year.

“2026 is a year of kabush kabash,” Odumeje proclaimed from the pulpit.

“Kabush kabash,” a phrase closely associated with Odumeje, is a slang expression without a direct English translation. The term is often used by the pastor in contexts related to spiritual confrontation and is commonly accompanied by glossolalia, also known as speaking in tongues — a Christian practice involving utterances believed to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.

During the service, Odumeje delivered his message with dramatic flair, performing expressive hand gestures, including forming an ‘X’ with his arms and raising his index and middle fingers, a style that has become a hallmark of his public appearances.

He further warned that the year would be filled with battles but assured his followers that he was spiritually prepared to confront them on their behalf.

“I know that many will come. I am ready for the battle,” he said. “Lift up your hands of destiny. The battle is not yours. I am ready to fight your war. I and my heavenly father. From today, prepare the burials of your enemies one by one. I am a warlord. I have never lost a fight. I can never lose a battle.”

Odumeje remains a controversial figure in Nigeria’s religious space, known for his unconventional preaching style and bold claims of supernatural powers. In 2024, he dismissed critics who questioned his abilities by describing himself as “a liquid metal.”

Last year, the pastor also announced his intention to contest Nigeria’s presidential election, a declaration that drew widespread public attention and debate.
