“I Was Asked to Pay Bribe for FCC Job Slots” – Wabara
Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has made a startling revelation, alleging he was asked to pay a bribe in exchange for job placements at the Federal Character Commission (FCC). Wabara, who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now calling for the removal of FCC Chairman Muheeba Dankaka amid these corruption claims.
In a recent interview, Wabara recounted his experience when seeking jobs for his constituents. “I physically went to the FCC, requesting jobs for some people in my wards. I was informed that nothing would be done unless I dropped some money,” Wabara stated, expressing his frustration at the apparent culture of bribery within the commission.
Wabara’s accusations add to mounting concerns surrounding the FCC, which has faced previous allegations of job racketeering. During a House of Representatives committee hearing last year, witnesses testified that they had paid bribes to secure jobs through an FCC official, Haruna Kolo, who later claimed he passed the money to Dankaka. Despite these serious claims, the findings from the investigation have not yet been released, leading to widespread concerns about a cover-up.
Wabara sharply criticized the government for its failure to act on the allegations. “Despite the serious allegations, nothing has been done,” he said, comparing the silence on this case to the swift action taken in other corruption investigations.
Attempts to reach committee chairman Yusuf Gagdi and House spokesman Akin Rotimi for comment were unsuccessful, as both failed to respond to calls and messages.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu has called for a thorough investigation into the FCC, stating, “We must ensure there are no selective investigations into corruption.” Shittu emphasized the need to restore public confidence in the commission by addressing these allegations transparently and decisively.
