“I Want an Outcome That Will Reflect the People’s Will,” Tinubu Tells Ondo Voters
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship election in Ondo State, stressing that the outcome must genuinely reflect the will of the people. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged political stakeholders, candidates, and voters to maintain peace and civility throughout the electoral process. He emphasized the importance of conducting civic duties without fear or intimidation, reminding candidates that the mandate to govern comes from the people and must be respected.
The statement read, “President Tinubu anticipates a democratic process in Ondo State that will genuinely reflect the people’s will and power to freely choose their leaders.” He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its preparedness, particularly in the timely distribution of sensitive election materials across all 18 local government areas.
The President expressed confidence in the security measures put in place, acknowledging the assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff that their personnel will act professionally and ensure the election’s integrity. He reiterated that free and fair elections are crucial in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic governance, which has now lasted for 25 years.
“It is in the best interest of all Nigerians to ensure a free and fair election and consolidate our over 25 years of democratic governance,” he concluded. With INEC’s readiness and heightened security, all eyes are now on Ondo State for a process that will set an example for transparency and adherence to the rule of law.
