“I Shot My Friend After Catching Him Having Sex with My Girlfriend” — Suspect
A 38-year-old hunter, Joseph Ajegba, has confessed to shooting his close friend after discovering him in a compromising situation with his girlfriend. The incident occurred in Ikun-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Ajegba, who was paraded alongside other criminal suspects at the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure, claimed he acted out of rage after catching his friend having sex with his girlfriend in a house he had rented for her.
According to Ajegba, earlier that day, he had dropped off bushmeat for his girlfriend before heading out for another hunting trip. Upon his return that night, he was shocked to find his friend in bed with her. “I had been drinking and ran out of cartridges while hunting, so I decided to go to my girlfriend’s place to sleep. When I got there, the door was locked. I looked through the window and saw another man, who is also a hunter, on top of her. That’s why I fired the gun I was holding,” he recounted.
Ondo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abayomi Oladipo, confirmed the incident during the suspect’s parade. He revealed that the case was reported to the police as an attempted murder on August 23, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m.
“The suspect, Ajegba Joseph, used an unlicensed single-barrel gun to shoot the victim after spotting him with his girlfriend. The suspect fired through the window in a fit of anger,” Oladipo stated.
In addition to Ajegba’s case, the police also paraded several suspects involved in other criminal activities, including a notorious car theft syndicate. The police commissioner disclosed that the gang, which specialized in inter-state car snatching, was apprehended following a daring armed robbery that took place on July 11, 2024.
A Toyota Corolla, a Tecno POP 5 phone, and N1.5 million in cash were stolen at gunpoint. The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the police command used advanced intelligence to track the suspects to Ogun State, where several members of the gang, including their leader, Akinsanya Sarafa Adeniyi, known as “Oba Idan,” were arrested. A female accomplice, who helped forge vehicle documents, was also among those taken into custody.
