“I Realized I Will Never See a Penny From Him Again” – American Woman Testifies in Abuja Court About $370,000 Fraud by Nigerian Lover
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Nwachi Chidozie Kingsley on charges of stealing, obtaining by false pretenses, and criminal possession of fake documents, amounting to $370,000.
In an ongoing trial before Justice U.P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, Nicole Kierulff Sayers, an American lawyer from Oregon, testified against Kingsley. Sayers, the third prosecution witness, described how Kingsley and his family allegedly conspired to defraud her.
The EFCC’s charges state that Kingsley, with intent to defraud, obtained $370,000 from Sayers under the false pretense of needing funds to secure a contract with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, a claim he knew to be false. This act is a violation of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offenses Act, 2006.
Sayers recounted that Kingsley first contacted her on Facebook, claiming they were part of the same spiritual organization. Their interactions quickly became romantic, and Kingsley soon asked her for money to secure a supposed government contract, claiming his life was in danger.
Believing him, Sayers transferred $15,000, expecting repayment within 45 days. She later sent a total of $40,000 before visiting Nigeria, where she met Kingsley’s family, who thanked her for saving his contract job. She stayed with Kingsley in Abuja, where he repeatedly asked for more money, totaling over $200,000 within a year for various alleged emergencies and contract-related expenses.
Kingsley provided false documents to support his claims and manipulated Sayers emotionally. Despite promises of repayment, Kingsley never returned any money, ultimately revealing his deceit when he failed to wire funds as promised.
The trial is set to continue on November 7.
