“I Am Determined to Rescue Nigeria”: Tinubu Tells Governors, Reaffirms State Police Plan
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on campaign promises, telling state governors that efforts to stabilise and reform the country will continue without delay.
Tinubu spoke on Monday evening at the State House in Abuja during an interfaith breaking of the fast attended by governors, bringing together Muslims observing Ramadan and Christians marking Lent.
In a message shared on X, the president said the period calls for reflection beyond governance. He commended governors for outreach activities carried out during the religious season but urged them to expand support to underserved communities, particularly young people and women facing economic hardship.
He stressed that development policies must remain inclusive and not be influenced by religion, ethnicity or social status. According to him, cooperation between federal and state governments is essential to delivering tangible improvements nationwide.
On security, Tinubu described public safety as fundamental to economic growth, noting that agriculture, businesses and families cannot thrive in an unsafe environment.
He restated his administration’s plan to establish state police, characterising the proposal as a structural reform aimed at improving internal security. The initiative, he said, would give states greater operational capacity while maintaining coordination within the national system.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Hope Uzodimma pledged continued collaboration with the federal government. He cited recent fiscal and tax reforms as measures that have strengthened state-level governance.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from both levels of government to advance security and policy reforms.
