“I Am Confident of Victory” – Shaibu Vows to Challenge Edo Primary Results
The impeached Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr. Philip Shaibu, has announced on Tuesday his intention to challenge Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) upcoming state election to the highest judicial level.
Shaibu’s declaration follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja, which on Monday dismissed his suit seeking to nullify the February 22 governorship primary that resulted in Ighodalo’s selection as the PDP candidate. Justice James Omotosho ruled that Shaibu lacked the legal standing to contest the primary’s outcome, citing his incomplete participation and absence on the day of the primary.
Despite the setback, Shaibu remains resolute. Speaking to reporters in Abuja, he asserted his belief in his victory with the authentic delegates and expressed confidence in the judiciary.
“I won the election with the authentic delegates. I am sure and confident that the court will do the right thing,” Shaibu stated. “My lawyers are reviewing Monday’s ruling, and I trust that justice will prevail. I believe in the judiciary’s integrity and its ability to deliver a fair verdict in both the primary dispute and my impeachment case.”
