How YPP Ward Chairman was Assassinated in Anambra

Chief Joe Mohale, the Chairman of Nanka Ward 1 of Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Orumba North Local Government Area, was tragically shot dead in a disturbing turn of events on Saturday night.

Eyewitnesses reported that Chief Mohale fell victim to political thugs following a meeting he organized between Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, the representative for Orumba North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, and her Nanka constituents.

Allegedly, the motive behind the heinous act stemmed from warnings to Nnabuife against stepping foot in Nanka for the rerun election in specific polling units within the community.

Sources revealed that the meeting was convened due to a recent Appeal Court ruling mandating a rerun election between Nnabuife and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Okwudili Ezenwankwo, for the 2023 general election in the Orumba North and South Federal Constituency.

The fatal incident occurred at a village hall when unidentified assailants, arriving in a Lexus 350 SUV, indiscriminately fired shots before fatally shooting Mohale and abducting another individual.

Moses Obi, the YPP State Chairman, acknowledged the tragedy, confirming the event while expressing that comprehensive details were still pending.

State Police Spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga mentioned that the police command hadn’t received any information regarding the incident. He urged the affected parties to formally report the incident at the nearest police station for requisite action.

This devastating event highlights the concerning entanglement of politics and violence, raising alarms about the safety and security of political figures in the region. Further investigations are expected to unfold as the community grapples with this tragic loss.
