In a swift operation, the Ebonyi State Police Command has successfully rescued a police inspector attached to the Police Detective College in Enugu, along with the village chair of Ngwogwo, Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area. The abduction had taken place on Sunday and had caused immediate concern.
According to SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police spokesperson in Ebonyi, both the police inspector and the village chair were abducted but have been rescued unharmed. The rescue operation, which took place after the police received credible intelligence, was characterized by its well-coordinated and swift execution.
The police operatives, upon receiving actionable information, swiftly moved into action and conducted a raid on a hideout located between Amata Ishiagu in Ebonyi and Lokpanta in Abia. Upon reaching the hideout, the criminals opened fire in an attempt to resist the operation. However, the police responded with superior firepower, effectively subduing the attackers.
During the intense exchange of gunfire, one of the criminals was neutralized by the police. In addition to the neutralization, three members of the gang responsible for the abduction were arrested without sustaining any harm. This decisive action by the police led to the safe and successful rescue of the kidnapped individuals.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of several weapons and ammunition. The confiscated items included two AK47 rifles, one double-barrelled gun, 45 AK47 live ammunition, and 70 live cartridges. These findings indicate the serious threat posed by the criminals and underscore the importance of the police’s prompt and effective intervention.
