“How is the Market Now?” — Onanuga Mocks Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai After ADC’s Bye-Election Defeat
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a swipe at opposition leaders following the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) poor outing in the recently concluded bye-elections.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, Onanuga shared a photo of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, with the caption: “How is the market now?”
The remark, widely seen as a taunt, comes after renewed debates on the strength and influence of Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports indicate that Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai had aligned with the ADC in the bye-elections as a way of testing their political weight. However, results showed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) sweeping most of the contested seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) managed a few wins.
Onanuga’s jibe adds to the growing narrative of whether opposition parties can present a united and effective challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election.
