Hoodlums Attacked, Raped Woman to Death in Nasarawa

A clash between the Tiv and Alago communities has resulted in severe violence. Reports indicate that a group of hoodlums attacked the Alago settlement, leaving numerous individuals injured and a woman raped to death.

According to Mr. Amos Baba, a local chieftain and resident of Keana, the attack occurred on the Keana-Obosidoma road, approximately two kilometers from Keana town. Mr. Amos revealed that Shuaibu Epu, an Alago man, was brutally stabbed by the assailants while working on his farm. He is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.

Tragically, a pregnant Koro woman was raped by the attackers and succumbed to her injuries while being treated at Dalhatu Arafat Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia. Mr. Amos praised the prompt intervention of the military, which managed to prevent further escalation of the violence.

In response, Mr. Phillip Nongu, President of the Mzough U Tiv (MUT) Nasarawa State chapter, reported that two Tiv youths—John Iwar and Verior Vitalis Utime—were killed in a subsequent reprisal attack by Alago youths. Nongu criticized the military for failing to prevent the retaliation and called for an end to the violence, urging both communities to seek peaceful resolutions.

He emphasized that continued violence only hinders development and urged both sides to cease hostilities and work towards reconciliation.
