Herbalist Allegedly Kills Suspected Yahoo Boy Seeking Spiritual Help, One Hospitalized as Police Launch Manhunt
The Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend a herbalist identified only as Alfa, over his alleged role in the killing of a suspected internet fraudster and the attempted murder of another in Mararaba.
Police authorities said the incident came to light after it was reported by vigilante member, Jamilu Abubakar. Preliminary investigations revealed that Abubakar allegedly accompanied two young men, 21-year-old Ani Sunday and Tosin Akurunor, to the residence of Alfa on August 12, 2025, in search of spiritual assistance reportedly aimed at boosting their illicit online activities.
According to police sources, Alfa is suspected to have prepared a concoction and served meat to the visitors as part of the ritual process. Shortly after consuming the food, both victims began to experience severe stomach pains. They were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Mararaba for urgent treatment.
Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that Ani Sunday was dead on arrival, while Tosin Akurunor is currently receiving treatment and is said to be responding well.
The police have since arrested Abubakar for his alleged role in taking the victims to the herbalist. Alfa, however, fled the scene and is now the subject of an intense manhunt.
Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer said detectives are working around the clock to track down the fugitive herbalist, urging residents to provide credible information that could aid his arrest. Authorities also warned the public against seeking illegal spiritual means to acquire wealth, noting the dangers and criminal consequences involved.
